When you have a little active toddler, how did you spend your Thanskgiving?

Re: Just curious>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
You definitely aren't wrong. DH should share watching her so you can enjoy yourself too.

Re: Just curious>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Well, I don't know that Cassidy is technically considered a "toddler" (she's 11 months and crawling) but we also spent Thanksgiving at my moms. Between me, DH and the rest of the family members that couldn't wait to get their paws on her, we all got to spend lots of time together. Cassidy ate turkey and mashed potatoes and sat at the table with everyone the whole time. HOWEVER, there have been plenty of times where we go someplace and I am the only one watching her, as DH is relaxing, watching sports with the guys. Pi$$es me off

Thanks for the responses. I love my DH. He is really great but last night he was happily sitting there chatting away and watching the game on tv while I spent the night in the backroom watching my daughter by myself.

Re: Just curious>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I'm right there with you. Today I'm sitting at home watching Alex and I'm totally and completely exhausted because she hardly slept last night and has been fussy all day today and of course I was the one who tended to her all night. DH took her off my hands at 8am to give me some rest and then woke me up at 9am because he just couldn't wait to go car shopping. And, of course, I'm sitting here, all freakin' day on his day off watching his daughter while he's out buying a new car for the family that I haven't even seen or driven... hmph. And I'm sure he'll come home today and tell me how *tired* he is... WHATEVER!!

I'm with you too! I have a 6 yo, a 2 1/2 year old and a 3 month old and after cooking for most of the day on Wed, I spent the entire time helping my Mom serve and clean up and in betwee that I BF my son, changed my kids twice (they got dirty from playing outside), and fed them. My hubby helps, but he is close with many of my family members and was caught up talkng with my Dad, uncles and cousins, so I do most of the work. I felt like I didn't get to see my family either because I was running around, on top of that I was running a low grade fever and had a horroble cold, Mommy-hood is the hardest job EVER!

Re: Just curious>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
When Joseph was a toddler we would switch off but only because I would say to him "your turn to watch him." If I don't tell him that then he's not going to do it. He's going to sit on his tush just like your DH did. I think for Christmas you may as well start prepping him ahead of time...well before Baby 2 comes. Bottom line if you don't ask for help, what I've noticed is that they rarely offer.
Once Baby 2 arrives, instead of switching off, your defense switches to 'man to man', ie, "You take the boy, I've got the girl." Baby 3 turns things from 'man to man' to 'zone defense'.
Now that they're both older, they play independently and their older cousins watch.
One other thing is your mom's house baby proofed. When it's baby-proofed, you'll be able to really relax - and no one has to sit in a room.

Re: Just curious>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Thanks. I also had to watch because she was playing with her 6 year old cousin who is used to playing rough. And I have to tell him that she is a baby and he has to be careful.

Re: Just curious>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I set my ground rules a couple of days before.. I did the cooking, at least the majority of it, and shlepped it to my mom and dads house, my DH made me run an hour and a half later than my schedule, cause he tooka longer shower than me--(which i still dont get)-- So I told him, my cousin agreed to watch my son while my DH peeled the potatos- the only thing I had left- while I stuffed the mushrooms, and then after that my DH was on his own.. I had to baste and do all the setting up, and couldnt play that game yesterday.. DH really helped me big time, but my relatives enjoyed playing with him and making train tracks in his mashed potatos.. lol..
My son will be three in March. Oh, and my Dh is usually with your DH on the couch taking a nap.. lol..

Re: Just curious>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Aidan is 18 months and we hosted Thanksgiving for the 5th year here at our house. We had 30 people (23 adults/7kids) He basically ran around with his cousins and had more freedom than usual. We just had to watch the stairs, he's not too good at the walking down part. Someone had their eye on him at all times.

I am also 6 mths pregnant and we have 20 mth old. We had Thanksgiving in our house, because in my opinion it's just easier for us because our home is completely child proof. Rob and I also take turns with Andrew and I also tell my parents and my brothers to watch him, when I need a break! I have no problem delegating baby watching duties to family and I learned that the hard way.

Re: Just curious>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
as soon as I give my dh "that look" he comes right away and helps probably to avoid a fight later.
